Frequently asked questions

How often should I get a dental cleaning?

Most patients should have a professional dental cleaning every six months. However, if you have gum disease or other oral health concerns, Dr. Lane may recommend more frequent cleanings to help keep your smile healthy.

During your exam, we’ll check your teeth, gums, bite, and overall oral health for signs of cavities, gum disease, or other concerns. Digital X-rays may also be taken when needed to detect problems that aren’t visible during the exam.

Most professional cleanings are comfortable and cause little to no discomfort. If you have sensitive teeth or inflamed gums, you may experience mild sensitivity, but our team will ensure your visit is as gentle and comfortable as possible.

Periodontal therapy is a specialized treatment used to treat gum disease by removing plaque and bacteria from below the gumline. It helps reduce inflammation, protect the supporting structures of your teeth, and improve your overall gum health.

The earliest stage of gum disease, called gingivitis, can often be reversed with professional dental cleanings and good oral hygiene. More advanced gum disease (periodontitis) cannot be reversed, but it can be effectively managed to prevent further damage and help maintain your oral health.
