Wisdom teeth can cause pain, crowding, and other oral health issues if there isn’t enough room for them to come in. At Lane Dentistry, we make the removal process comfortable, safe and stress-free.
Wisdom tooth removal is a common procedure to extract one or more of the third molars, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. These teeth often lack enough room to erupt properly, leading to pain, infection, or other dental problems.
Removing problematic wisdom teeth early can prevent pain, damage to their teeth, infection, cysts, and costly orthodontic treatment in the future.

Not everyone needs to have their wisdom teeth removed. However, removal may be recommended if they are impacted, causing pain, crowding other teeth, increasing your risk of infection, or damaging nearby teeth. Dr. Lane will evaluate your wisdom teeth with a thorough exam and digital imaging to determine the best course of treatment for your oral health.
The procedure itself is performed using local anesthesia, and sedation options may be available to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. Most patients experience mild to moderate soreness after the procedure, which can typically be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication, ice packs, and following your post-operative instructions.
Most patients return to their normal routine within 2 to 3 days, although complete healing of the extraction site can take several weeks. Recovery time depends on factors such as the number of teeth removed and whether the teeth were impacted. We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions to help ensure a smooth recovery.
For the first few days, stick to soft foods such as yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, smoothies (without a straw), scrambled eggs, soup, and pasta. Avoid hard, crunchy, spicy, or chewy foods until the extraction sites have had time to heal. Drinking plenty of water and following your post-operative instructions will also support a faster recovery.
Many dental insurance plans provide coverage for wisdom tooth removal when the procedure is considered medically necessary. Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and specific plan. Our team is happy to verify your benefits, explain your coverage, and provide an estimate of any out-of-pocket costs before treatment.
Even if your wisdom teeth aren’t causing symptoms, they may still pose future risks such as infection, decay, gum disease, cysts, or damage to neighboring teeth. Regular dental exams and digital X-rays allow Dr. Lane to monitor your wisdom teeth and determine whether removal is recommended now or if they can continue to be safely observed.
